Transport
Volunteer Role | Feline welfare | Flexible Hours

Location: York and Yorkshire

Commitment: Variable/ flexible.

Role overview:

Band of Rescuers North Yorkshire is a volunteer-led animal rescue dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming cats and kittens in need across the region. Our Transport Volunteers play a vital role in keeping our rescue work moving by helping transport cats, supplies, and equipment wherever they are needed most. Without our transport team, we simply couldn’t carry out rescues, support our foster carers, or ensure cats receive the veterinary care they need. You’ll be one part chauffeur, one part logistics coordinator, and occasionally the proud owner of a car temporarily ruled by a very judgemental cat carrier.

Key responsibilities:

  • Veterinary Transport – Transport cats to and from veterinary appointments to support our foster carers and rescue work.

  • Rescue Collection – Collect cats from vets, previous owners, or members of the public and bring them safely into our care.

  • Donation Support – Deliver and collect donations such as food, litter, bedding, and other essential supplies.

  • Equipment & Resource Transport – Help move equipment and resources around York to support the wider volunteer team.

  • Volunteer Coordination – Communicate with the rescue team to coordinate transport requests and timings smoothly.

Skills and experience:

You don’t need previous rescue experience for this role, but the following would be beneficial:

  • A genuine love of animals and commitment to their welfare.

  • Your own vehicle and a full UK driving licence.

  • A calm, patient, and reliable approach.

  • Good organisational and time management skills.

  • Confidence communicating with volunteers, vets, and members of the public.

  • The ability to work independently and adapt to changing situations when needed.

Time Commitment:

  • Completely flexible volunteering with no minimum commitment.

  • Transport requests can be picked up when you are available.

  • Some journeys may be short local trips, while others may take longer depending on need.

  • Ideal for volunteers looking for a practical, hands-on role that fits around existing commitments.

What You’ll Gain:

  • The opportunity to make a direct difference to cats and kittens in need.

  • Experience supporting animal rescue and welfare operations.

  • A supportive and friendly volunteer team.

  • The satisfaction of helping cats reach safety, treatment, foster care, or their forever homes.

How to apply:

If you’d like to support our rescue work and become part of our transport volunteer team, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Band of Rescuers North Yorkshire with a brief introduction and any relevant experience.
